Africa-Press – Angola. Politician Rafael Massanga Savimbi, one of the candidates for the leadership of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) in the elections scheduled to take place during the party’s XIV Ordinary Congress, on Tuesday in the city of Uíge, reaffirmed the need for his organization to be more united in order to strengthen itself and be better prepared for the country’s future political challenges.
In a meeting with party members in the country’s northern province, he argued that there should be tolerance among members in the free choice of the future president of the largest opposition party, who is to be elected at the end of this month.
Rafael Savimbi said that, despite differing opinions, it is necessary for each member to respect the choice of the other, adding that it is important that everyone makes their choice and has the opportunity to hear the main proposals of each candidate.
The politician also defended the need to deepen democracy within the party.
“One of the reasons for the founding and struggle of UNITA is indeed democracy. But we want democracy to deepen first within our party, so that we can inspire other parties and all of Angola”, said the politician.
Rafael Massanga Savimbi recalled that holding the XIV Congress of the opposition party, with multiple candidates, aims to honor one of the reasons for UNITA’s struggle.
