Africa-Press – Angola. Angola revalidated its world title in team Kumite on Monday at the 11th edition of the World Karate Championships in Matsuyama, Japan, according to a statement from the Angolan Embassy in that Asian country.
The fighters won a total of 25 medals: 10 gold, 10 silver, and five bronze, in the most important categories of the competition.
With this victory, the Angolan squad repeated the feat from 2023 in Lübeck, Germany, where the national delegation achieved the same result.
Today, on the second and final day of competition, Giliano André stood out by winning the gold medal and with that he revalidated the individual world title for Angola.
His final fight was marked by an incident. Angolan athlete Carlos João (Japa) was disqualified after delivering a blow that knocked his Japanese opponent unconscious, which generated protests from the Angolan team who complained about the referee’s blatant bias.
The Angolan delegation consists of 28 members, including athletes of various levels and categories, members of the coaching staff, and officials.
