Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Ambassador to Ethiopia, Miguel César Bembe, received in audience this Sunday in Addis Ababa Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, the French candidate for the position of Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

A press release reports that the Angolan representative to the African Union (AU) and Bembe reviewed cooperation between Angola and France, which they consider very advanced and diverse.

On that occasion, the document states, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, accompanied by the French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Alexis Lamek, presented the priorities of her program should she be elected to the UNDP position.

It clarifies that the candidate emphasized strengthening cooperation between partners, with comparative advantages, promoting financing for diverse infrastructures, training specialized human capital, and combating poverty and unemployment, with a focus on sovereignty, food security, and youth.

The former French Minister of State for Development, Francophonie, and Partnerships, according to the note, emphasized her desire to support the strategic vision of Angola’s pro tempore leadership in the AU.

Chysoula Zacharopoulou is competing for the post of UNDP administrator against three other candidates, namely from Belgium, Denmark, and Japan. The final decision on the appointment of one of the officials will be made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.Ambassador Miguel Bembe welcomed the priorities of the French candidate’s program and took the opportunity to report on the activities carried out by Angola since February 2025, as chair of the AU, as well as other ongoing activities, such as the 9th TICAD in August 2025, the 2nd Africa-CARICOM Summit, the Climate Summit, and the Special Meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council on Conflicts in Africa, scheduled for September, the latter on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He also mentioned the Continental Conference on Infrastructure in Africa and the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Member States of the African Union and the European Union, which will be held in Luanda in October and November 2025, respectively.
