Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to UNESCO, Cândida Teixeira, spoke on Monday in New Delhi, India, about the importance of valuing each people’s cultural identity and respecting diversity.
According to a press release, the diplomat, who is participating in the 20th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, also reiterated her commitment to the mandate and values of the global organisation.
Angola is a signatory to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage and a member of the Committee of that Convention for a four-year term.
In 2023, Angola inscribed Sona (the traditional art of geometric designs in sand) on the list of intangible heritage, and joint work is underway between the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO for the future inscription of the musical rhythm semba.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), headquartered in Paris, France, is holding the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in New Delhi, India, from Monday until next Saturday (13).
