Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND) and its Portuguese counterpart Monday strengthened cooperation aimed at exchanging experience and more regular contacts.

José do Amaral, president of FAAND, held a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart, Miguel Laranjeiro, to strengthen the ties of cooperation between the two institutions, which in the first phase will involve the skills of both sides to work together for better results to be achieved.

‘Portugal is a well-regarded country in men’s handball and Angola is in the same position in women’s handball, so we thought it would be appropriate to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation ties,’Amaral said.

He added that in the near future there would be greater interaction with other Portuguese-speaking countries, such as Cape Verde and Brazil, so that the community could become a comprehensive reference in handball.

In September, Angola will host an international tournament in honor of the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence, and Portugal is one of the teams invited.

Angola’s women’s team dominates the African continent with 16 titles, while Portugal’s men’s team is in an evolutionary phase with regular appearances at the European and World Championships, and has made its debut at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
