Over 97 Containers of Quartz Seized at Port of Luanda over Irregularities

Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) seized a total of 100 containers of quartz destined for the Republic of China at the Port of Luanda, for alleged illegal exploitation by a local company, according to a statement released by the SIC on Tuesday.

The SIC stated that the operation took place on the night of May 19 and was carried out by officers of the national criminal investigation department deployed at the Port of Luanda, following a tip-off that a local company was planning to fraudulently export the mineral to China.

“As part of the control measures relating to the export of mineral resources, the SIC carried out an operation at the Port of Luanda and found non-compliance with legal procedures. The attempt to illegally export minerals was thwarted, and the 100 20-foot containers loaded with quartz were seized,” reads the statement.

It clarifies that this attempt violates a presidential decree that prohibits the export of this mineral.

The SIC said it remains fully committed to protecting the country’s strategic resources and combating illegal practices that undermine public interest and the integrity of the national economy.
