Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor of the southern Huíla Province, Nuno Mahapi, on Wednesday in Lubango City stated that the future of the economy of the country depends essentially on the modernization of agriculture, as well as investment in science and technology.

Nuno Mahapi was speaking during the opening of the 32nd edition of Expo Huíla, which was attended by national and local authorities, representatives of banking institutions, business people from Angola, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Portugal, and Italy, as well as members of civil society.

On the occasion, the governor emphasized that “there is no sustainable development without technological transformation combined with the countryside, with Expo serving as a platform for economic dialogue and attracting investment, projecting Huíla as a diversified production hub.”

He added that recent agricultural results demonstrate the province’s potential, as in the 2023-2024 campaign, about 247,113 tons of various crops were produced, ensuring 70% of national cattle breeding production, figures that reinforce the region’s strategic role in food supply and in conquering foreign markets.

The governor also highlighted Huíla’s geostrategic position in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, benefiting from logistics corridors that enhance competitiveness and expand opportunities for regional trade and cooperation.

This year’s edition taking place under the motto “Agro plus technology equals a guaranteed future,” features the participation of more than 500 national and international companies from the agribusiness, industry, services, technology, banking, insurance, and tourism sectors.

The event that runs until August 24th, is part of the 123rd edition of the Nossa Senhora do Monte Festival. The event is supported by sponsors from companies in the telecommunications, hospitality, port, security, water plants, and other sectors.
