Governor highlights "greatness" of PIR in public safety

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, highlighted yesterday, Sunday, that the Rapid Intervention Police (PIR) has become a national and international giant, as a result of the various achievements in guaranteeing public safety and securing major events.

The minister was speaking at the central act commemorating the 31st anniversary of the Rapid Intervention Police, which yesterday is celebrated, under the motto “With training and permanent formation – PIR! Ready to disperse disturbances and combat crime.

On the occasion, Lotti Nolika pointed out, among other missions of the PIR, the securing of the African football championships, held in Angola, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, as well as all the electoral processes that took place in the country, in coordination with the other defense forces. and security.

He stated that in the province of Huambo, in particular, the Rapid Intervention Police had always carried out, in an exemplary manner, one of the most important tasks, which was ensuring the first visit of His Holiness Pope John Paul II, in 1992.

According to the governor, peace, security, order and public tranquility must always represent inseparable assets of society, with the PIR and other bodies of the National Police and the military being responsible for ensuring its implementation.

“As we celebrate another year of existence, we believe that the oath to the Flag that you took in parade on the day of incorporation into the ranks of the PIR, will be like a lighthouse and guide so that the people you swore to serve, see in the dark blue uniform, hope and tranquility.

He recalled that the 4th of July 1992 marked the birth of the Rapid Intervention Police, whose mission was and continues to be to ensure the restoration of public order, combat violent and organized crime.

For this reason, he encouraged commissioner officers, superiors, subordinates, deputy chiefs and agents to invest in academic and technical training, to better ensure the achievement of the population’s desires.

The governor underlined that the incorporation of several women in the Rapid Intervention Police, in addition to proving how brave they are, makes the dogma of work destined only for men fall to the ground, at a time when the Angolan State is working to make discrimination part of the past, bringing this social segment to prominent positions, including commissioners and higher officers.

Created in 1992, on the occasion of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Angola, the PIR’s main mission is to prevent delinquency, maintain public order, fight disturbances and guarantee territorial integrity.

The Rapid Intervention Police, represented throughout the country, has the Anti-Terrorism Units (UAT), Anti-Disturbances Units (UAD) and Armored Vehicles Units (UVB).
