Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, on Saturday demanded those responsible for the construction of the Caculo Cabaça dam in Cuanza Norte province to give greater dynamism and speed to this project, so that the first turbine starts supplying electricity as soon as possible.

The minister was speaking during the coordination meeting of the Caculo Cabaça Hydroelectric Power Plant project, located in Cuanza-Norte, which allowed him to analyse the general status of the work and present its updated schedule, as well as to make an analysis of the financial situation of the project.

The meeting also served to assess the constraints that exist in relation to the contract, so that the work runs smoothly and within the previously agreed deadlines.

The meeting, which also allowed a visit to the respective infrastructure, was attended by the provincial governor of Cuanza-Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, contractors, inspectors, heads of the ministries of Finance and Planning, as well as representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Angola.

The Caculo Cabaça Hydroelectric Plant is the largest project in the electricity sector in the country, which plans to inject another 2,172 megawatts (MW) of power into the national electricity grid, increasing its reliability and improving the quality of the interconnected grid, throughout the national territory.

The energy infrastructure will also allow the export of energy to neighboring countries, generating revenue for the state coffers, in addition to helping to leverage the country industrialization, bringing clean, environmentally friendly and cheap energy to the eastern region of Angola.

In addition, the Caculo Cabaça Hydroelectric Plant will help boost the national economy, generating thousands of jobs, between direct and indirect, with the emergence of many businesses and industries, raising the quality of life of citizens and being at the top of the priorities of the Government of Angola, to improve the living conditions of Angolans.
