Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, yesterday delivered a message from the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali. According to a press release , the message is very likely to address issues related to friendship and solidarity between the peoples and governments of Angola and Ethiopia, as well as the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral relations, including issues of common interest on a continental level.
Angola and Ethiopia maintain, at the highest level, a regular exchange of messages, which reflect the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. This dialogue has been marked by the strengthening of bilateral relations, with emphasis on areas such as peace and security, economic cooperation and the defence of multilateralism.The governments of Angola and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia have signed two legal instruments with the aim of boosting bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
These are the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries. The signing ceremony for the two legal instruments took place at the headquarters of the African Union (AU), and they were initialed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, Téte António (Angola) and Taye Atske-Salassie (Ethiopia), on the eve of the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), to be held tomorrow and next Sunday.
The Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries will allow the heads of Angolan and Ethiopian diplomacy to meet for consultations whenever there is a topic of mutual interest.
In highlighting Ethiopia’s economic potential in the areas of industrialisation, tourism and agriculture, including the experience of the airline, Minister Téte António reported that the Ethiopian authorities are interested in the Angolan experience in oil exploration, while Angola is interested in the Ethiopian experience in gold exploration.
