Africa-Press – Angola. At least 64% of the population of Malanje Province is made up of young people under the age of 25, according to the final results of the General Population and Housing Census carried out in 2024.

According to the data presented on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in addition, 63 percent of the inhabitants of Malanje are literate, figures that represent a driving force capable of boosting the province’s economy.

The results of the census process indicate that, out of approximately 1.2 million inhabitants, 659,881 are women, while 638,369 are men, with a difference of more than 21,000 people, which places women at 56.2% of the total population,

It adds that the composition of family units in the province is 338,946 households in total, with an average of four people per family.

Despite the balance of numbers observed in family units, the over-representation of women in the general population raises questions about migration, the labour market, and access to services.

The source indicates that of the total population, 781,336 people, representing 65%, live in four of the province’s 27 municipalities, namely Malanje with 377,603 inhabitants, Quéssua with 277,645, Calandula with 65,593 and Cacuso with 60,495.

More than 60 percent of the province’s inhabitants reside in the urban areas of their respective municipalities, and 58% have birth certificates and identity cards.

Regarding public services, the data indicates that 22.2% have access to potable water and 40.2% have electricity from public networks.
