Africa-Press – Angola. This Monday, in Huambo, Minister of Culture Filipe Zau advocated for greater publicity and appreciation of the achievements made over the 50 years of National Independence.

The minister was speaking to the press at the end of the conference on “Angola: 50 Years, Half a Century of Political Autonomy” at the Manuel Rui Monteiro Cultural Center, as part of the celebrations for this anniversary, to be celebrated on November 11th of this year.

Filipe Zau said that the 50 years of National Independence should be celebrated so that, within each person, there is a greater sense of Angolan identity and that the paths taken to proclaim this freedom from colonial rule are understood from a historical perspective, both positive and negative.

He emphasized that celebrating half a century of independence is a source of pride for building a better country, in a context of peace, democracy and the rule of law, social justice, and respect for human rights, with the goal of a society of greater progress and social well-being.

The president noted that this work must be done every day, in the sectors of culture, education, media, churches, civil society, and other partners, to build a nation with its own historical and political identity.

For his part, the governor of Huambo province, Pereira Alfredo, highlighted the fact that the conference “Angola: 50 Years, Half a Century of Political Autonomy” reflected the intricacies of the conquest of national freedom, which served as a valuable learning experience for the younger generation and other segments of society.

In Huambo province, to celebrate 50 years of national independence, there are plans, among other events, including music and cultural festivals, journalism awards, and sports tournaments.
