Africa-Press – Angola. More than 100 museum artefacts are registered and preserved on display in the exhibition room of Casa da Cultura do Moxico, Press found this Thursday in Luena.
In a visit carried, within the framework of the International Museum Day, which is celebrated May 18, a collection composed of various pieces was observed, such as musical instruments, masks, hunting weapons, fishing baskets, animal skins , in one of the rooms of the House of Culture.
The pieces that symbolize the Luvale, Luchazes and Cokwé ethnic groups are the most representative.
In the small exhibition room, the presence of the “Samanhonga” statuette is notorious, one of the greatest symbols of the Cokwé people, who inhabit the eastern region of the country, which has become, since 1984, a jewel of national culture.
Rich in history and stories, the play Samanhonga, which in Portuguese is translated as “Pensador” originates from the eastern region of Angola, which includes the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico, where the pieces “Mwana Pwó” also emerged. , “Muhongo”, “Muquixi wa Mwata”, among other artefacts on display at the site.
In addition to these pieces, the “Cinguvu” is on display at Casa da Cultura do Moxico, an instrument that in the past was used as a means of communication to update activities carried out in the Cokwé kingdom, whose sound reached a distance of six to 10 kilometers, as well as to promote the dance of the region.
The head of the Department of Culture, Historical Heritage and Communities, Traditional, Ester Alberto, said that the place is very popular with young people and students who are impressed with the region’s cultural heritage.
However, the limitation of space has prevented the exhibition of more artistic pieces and the presence of more visitors, according to the person in charge, who defends the construction of a museum that will also allow the preservation of the current museum pieces.
The completion of this project, the construction of which had already been scheduled for more than eight years, within the scope of the Public Investment Plans (PIP) could also allow the collection of more pieces scattered in the various municipalities of the province to be documented.
International Museum Day has been celebrated since 1977, with the aim of valuing museums, living institutions that help create links between different generations and cultures around the world.
