Africa-Press – Angola. A campaign to raise the awareness of taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers about the gradual withdrawal of the subsidy on the price of gasoline started Saturday, in Malanje, in an initiative of the Provincial Committee of the MPLA.
The gesture aims to clarify the reasons for the Executive’s decision, to avoid disinformation and speculation about the supposed rise in the price of gasoline and to stop the trend of increasing taxi fares.
As part of the “Eme em Movimento” directive, the initiative will run until the end of July and will involve members of the Party Action Committees (CAP).
The starting point was the Carreira de Tiro neighborhood, where members of the Secretariat of the Executive Commission of the party took part in clarification actions, under the guidance of the second secretary of the Provincial Committee, Nelo de Carvalho.
At the end of the activity, the secretary of the Department of Information and Propaganda of the MPLA, Ema Massunga considered that the measure will make it possible to increase new investments in social infrastructures, in favor of the well-being of Angolans.
He made it known that the continuous subsidy of gasoline to taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers and other productive segments aims to guarantee more and more robustness to the national economy.
For that reason, he appealed to taxi operators to refrain from price speculation, as well as to continue to license their means, so that they receive subsidy cards.
Meanwhile, motorcycle taxi drivers Bernardo José and Adilson Agostinho thanked the party’s initiative, as it will help to dispel doubts about the advantages of the gradual elimination of the gasoline subsidy and the continuous guarantee of subsidy to productive activities.
However, they requested greater speed in the process of registering means and delivery of subsidy cards, along with an increase in supply points.
Identical activity was carried out by JMPLA in the Maxinde neighborhood.
The province of Malanje has so far registered more than 3,000 vehicles, including taxis and motorcycle taxis, of which 1,621 already have the respective subsidy cards.
