Murderers of Eritrean Businessman Sentenced to Prison in Huíla

Africa-Press – Angola. The Lubango District Court (first instance), on Monday in Huíla, sentenced three of the five young people accused of shooting to death an Eritrean businessman to sentences ranging that go from 20 to 30 years in prison.

The murder of the 37-year-old foreign citizen occurred in February 2024, in the Industrial Zone of Lubango, capital city of Huíla, on a public street, after resisting a robbery when the businessman went to a bank to deposit 37 million kwanzas.

The defendants Barnabé Ilustra also known as “Bad Ilustre”, author of the shooting, were sentenced to 30 years in prison, for murder, aggravated robbery and criminal association.

João Chava (Pitra) was sentenced to 28 years, and Wilson António to 25 years in prison, for the same crimes.

The three defendants were also ordered to pay compensation to the victim’s family of 3 million kwanzas and the amount of 37 million kwanzas to the company SOTAM Comercial, an amount that disappeared after the robbery.

Due to insufficient evidence in the case, the Court acquitted the defendants Justino Chacamba and Julsónia Vieira Cardoso (Sónia).

According to the sentence, the authorship of the crime of murder for which they were accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office was proven in court.

The Lubango Industrial Zone is today characterized by wholesale warehouses, the majority of which are owned by Lebanese, Mauritanian and Eritrean citizens.
