President of the Republic inaugurates water transfer system

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, who is accompanied by the First Lady and members of her Cabinet, is today completing an important day on the agenda of his working visit to Cunene, with the inauguration of the Cafu water transfer system, marking the beginning of a new era in the lives of the populations of Om-bala-yo-Mungo, Namacunde and Ndombondola, horrified for years by the severe drought that left a history of pain, where villagers and livestock were not spared.

João Lourenço, who has been in Cunene since yesterday, was greeted with great joy on arrival. At the airport, the scene was marked by an incalculable number of people holding signs with messages of affection. One of the words, carried by inhabitants of Oncócua, one of the areas most affected by the effects of the drought, could be read: “Cunene welcomes his Excellency President of the Republic, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço”. The manifestation of affection describes, in a linear way, the gratitude of a people who know well what suffering is.

The anxiety of the population that was inside the airport to receive the President and the First Lady began to rise in tone as the arrival time approached. Finally, at 4:20 pm, the aircraft carrying the Head of State arrived at the 11 de Novembro Airport runway, to the jubilation of the local population. It was possible to hear, among the crowd, in a repetitive way, the word “thank you”.

After the President of the Republic got off the aircraft, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, a curious fact happened at the moment and surprised everyone. As João Lourenço addressed the population waiting for him at the airport to greet him, the sky began to cloud over and then it began to rain. The city of Ondjiva had not received rain for a week.

The king of Oukwanhama, Jerónimo Haleinge, from his experience, said that the fact represents a blessing. “It means that he (the President) is welcome here in Cunene province. It is a sign that he came precisely to solve the problems of the communities, especially with regard to the water issue”, he stressed. In the morning, the city of Ondjiva began to register the first movements of people, mostly young people, coming from various parts of the province.

The motive that moved them was the same: to receive the President, who is going to the province for the third time, the last two in less than a year. The movement gained strength from minute to minute, until the highest point was recorded, close to dusk, as it was close, at the time, to the time of the arrival of the Head of State.

The main streets of Ondjiva were unable to accommodate the immensity of people who arrived, from time to time, from the four corners of the province. On Avenida 11 de Novembro, which gives access to the airport of the same name, a human corridor was formed from one end to the other to receive the President of the Republic.

After this moment, blessed by the rain, in the words of King Jerónimo Ha-Leinge, the President went to the Government Palace, where he had a brief meeting with the governor of the province Gerdina Didalelwa. Then, he headed to the works of the Ekuma II centrality, in the city of Ondjiva, where he found out about its progress. This centrality, whose works are very advanced, has a thousand houses, seven social facilities and is being built in phases. The first, consisting of 500 houses, has a health post, a kindergarten, a primary school with 24 classrooms, a secondary school with 12 classrooms and other compartments, a soccer field, a police station and a childish. In terms of external infrastructure, the centrality will have a water distribution center, with capacity to store 1,000 cubic meters, a wastewater treatment system. All dwellings are 100 square meters and have the same interior architecture. The delivery of the first houses starts in June this year, according to the contractor.
