SIC stops fuel smuggling to DRC

Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) seized, on Monday, in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, 18,750 liters of fuel (diesel and gasoline), which were supposed to be sold in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to the SIC spokesperson in the region, chief inspector Suzana Sebastião, who was speaking to the press yesterday, the fuel was being transported in a Chakman truck, seized in the early hours of Monday, in the village of Nkembo, located 25 kilometers from the city of Mbanza Kongo, in 70 drums of 250 liters each and 50 others of 25 liters each.

“As part of the fight against fuel smuggling, SIC, in coordination with the National Police, seized, at dawn on the 14th of this month, on the Mbanza Kongo/Luvo road, specifically in the village of Nkembo, a Chakman truck with 120 drums of fuel, which contained 18,750 liters, “he said.

According to a spokeswoman for SIC in Zaire, despite the fuel having been seized, the alleged owners fled.

At least three nationals, aged between 25 and 65, were arrested Monday in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), on suspicion of involvement in scams.

The SIC spokeswoman in the region, chief inspector Suzana Sebastião, explained that, at the time of the arrest, the aforementioned citizens, who pretended to be employees of the civil construction company Odebrecht, had 86 individual files and 11,000 kwanzas in their possession. , resulting from the payments they received from the victims, at the rate of two thousand kwanzas each, which would supposedly be used to process the certificate of residence.

According to the SIC spokeswoman, the members of the group, who were denounced by the victims, promised jobs to everyone who was interested, despite not being part of the Odebrecht company.

“For the action taken, the three citizens will be present to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for legal procedures. taking into account that fraudsters use various “modus operandis”, through social networks, sending messages or phone calls”, he advised.

Police Commander defends preventive actions

The provincial commander of the National Police in Zaire, Commissioner Manuel Gonçalves, yesterday urged the municipal commanders of units, police stations and posts to dedicate all their efforts and intelligence to preventing and combating crimes.

The exhortation was made during the provincial opening ceremony of activities alluding to the 46th anniversary of the institutionalization of the corporation, to be celebrated on the 28th, under the motto “National Police of Angola, 46 years guaranteeing public tranquility and security”.

According to commissioner Manuel Gonçalves, the success of the actions to combat the various crimes that in recent days have taken place in almost the entire province depends on the intensification of dialogue with the communities and the carrying out of crime prevention campaigns.

“Despite the political, economic and social context that the country is going through, resulting from the health crisis arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, the National Police cannot fail to guarantee security within the populations, always prioritizing pedagogical measures”, he said. The provincial delegate of the Ministry of the Interior also assured that the National Police in the region is ready and will face with determination, patriotism and a sense of responsibility the great challenge that lies ahead, related to the 2022 general elections, in order to guarantee tranquility and public safety.

It should be noted that the program to commemorate the 46 years of existence of the National Police includes lectures on the theme “The role of the National Police in the security of the general elections”, visits to the media, blood donation and the laying of wreaths in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, among others.
