Africa-Press – Cape verde. Residents of Monte Trigo, an isolated fishing village in the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, expressed concern this Thursday about the climate of insecurity prevailing in the area, allegedly due to drug trafficking and consumption.
According to Inforpress, residents of Monte Trigo have been persistently contacting Inforpress to express their concern about the insecurity that reigns in the isolated area caused by drug trafficking and consumption.
Residents, who requested anonymity for fear of retaliation from drug traffickers, explained that this situation is affecting young people, who “spend all their time using drugs, in many cases, hard drugs.”
To get money to buy drugs, users rob and assault people, creating a climate of fear and insecurity in the community, they explain to the people, who again call for police intervention.
When contacted by Inforpress, a police source assured that, based on complaints from residents, investigations were opened to determine the facts on the matter.
