Africa-Press. Tunisia’s national team has reached the final of the Men’s African Handball Championship, currently being held in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.

Tunisia recorded a convincing win over Algeria, 33-24, in the semi-finals, keeping alive its hopes of winning a record-extending 11th title in the tournament.

Tunisia controlled the game throughout, leading 19-11 at halftime before maintaining its advantage in the second half and sealing victory by a nine-goal margin.

Tunisia will now meet Egypt in a classic showdown on Saturday in the continental final, after the “Pharaohs” defeated Cape Verde 32-26 in the other semi-final.

A final with historic significance

The final carries a special historical weight: Egypt is aiming for a fourth consecutive title, looking to retain its continental crown and raise its tally to 10 championships—drawing level with Tunisia in the all-time number of titles. Tunisia, meanwhile (the “Eagles of Carthage”), hopes to reclaim the trophy it has not won since the 2018 edition in Gabon.

It is worth noting that Egypt and Tunisia have qualified for next year’s World Championship in Germany, along with Cape Verde and Algeria, who will meet on Friday in the third-place match for the bronze medal.

Africa’s final set of teams heading to the World Championship will also be completed on Friday, through the Angola–Nigeria match, which will determine fifth place at the African Championship.
