Africa-Press. As floods sweep across Mozambique, crocodiles have begun appearing inside waterlogged towns, causing at least three deaths.

In the city of Xai-Xai, the capital of Gaza Province and one of the hardest-hit areas in the south of the country, authorities warned residents of growing risks of crocodile attacks as flooding expands and evacuations continue to higher ground.

Heavy rains and severe flooding that struck parts of southern Africa over the past month have killed more than 100 people in Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, in addition to destroying thousands of homes and inflicting major damage on infrastructure, including roads, bridges, schools, and health facilities.

Authorities said that among 13 flood-related deaths recorded in Mozambique, three people were killed by crocodile attacks.

It is worth noting that the Limpopo River, whose waters overflowed, rises in South Africa, passes through Mozambique, and empties into the Indian Ocean.
