Africa-Press. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has stated that any Israeli interference in Somalia “poses a threat to the stability of the entire Horn of Africa.”
Speaking at the 17th Al Jazeera Forum in the Qatari capital Doha, Mohamud warned of the regional and international repercussions of Israeli interventions in his country, as well as of “attempts to alter the existing international order.”
He argued that “a return to the logic of force will lead the world into dark phases of instability.”
The Somali president stressed that the Red Sea is a vital artery for global trade and a key source of growth and cooperation opportunities, emphasizing that “any threat to its security and stability will negatively affect the global economy.”
Mohamud also said that the memorandum of understanding signed by “Israel” with the “Somaliland” region is “an illegal measure that undermines Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and threatens the stability of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.”
He added that this step contradicts the African Union Charter, which is based on respect for inherited borders, and constitutes a dangerous precedent in violating the national sovereignty of states.
