Africa-Press. Egyptian side Pyramids, the reigning champions, secured their place in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League after a convincing 4-1 away victory over Nigeria’s Rivers United on Sunday, in the fifth round of Group A.

Pyramids’ goals were scored by Mostafa Fathi, Marwan Hamdy from the penalty spot, Aouda El Fakhouri and Nasser Maher in the 53rd, 77th, 88th and 90+1 minutes. Manny Steven Igbone netted Rivers United’s only goal in the 33rd minute.

The win lifted Pyramids to 13 points at the top of the group, six points clear of Morocco’s RS Berkane in second place and Zambia’s Power Dynamos in third. Rivers United remain bottom with just one point.

Despite Rivers United’s territorial control in the first half, Pyramids proved more dangerous and staged a strong comeback in the second half, scoring four goals to seal qualification.
