Africa-Press. The African Union Peace and Security Council called on member states and international partners to reaffirm respect for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the unity of its territory, stressing the importance of adhering to the Union’s principles that uphold the territorial integrity of member states.
The Council also condemned “Israel’s” announcement recognizing the independence of the “Somaliland” region, urging it to reverse the move, and emphasizing that any action that undermines Somalia’s unity contradicts regional and international laws and charters.
The Council renewed its support for Somalia’s unity and stability, warning that such moves could further complicate the situation in the Horn of Africa and negatively affect efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.
It is worth noting that Somalia was elected yesterday, Wednesday, to membership of the African Union Peace and Security Council for the 2026–2028 term, a step reflecting Somalia’s diplomatic progress and its return to its natural place on the continental and international stage.
