Africa-Press. France’s consul general in Rabat, Olivier Ramadour, said Morocco ranks second worldwide in the number of beneficiaries of Schengen visas issued by France in 2025.

According to the data, France granted more than 300,000 Schengen visas to Moroccan applicants in 2025, a 20% increase compared with 2024. This places Morocco second after China and ahead of India in the number of visas issued, Ramadour said during an appearance on the program “Inter Matin” on “Chaîne Inter.”

Ramadour said these figures reflect “the importance of the bilateral relationship with Morocco, as well as the quality and intensity of human ties between the two countries.” He added that visas are an “essential component” of the strategic partnership between France and Morocco.

He also pointed to efforts over the past two years to make it easier to obtain visa appointments, helping Moroccans travel to France with fewer obstacles. The consul general said French consular services in Morocco—which have outsourced the submission of visa applications—are working hard to improve and speed up procedures and processing times.

Regarding intermediaries, Ramadour said they “undermine equal access,” adding that consular services are looking for solutions to prevent their interference. He said: “There is no problem with intermediaries helping prepare applications for those who lack time or do not speak French well, but the problem arises when these offices use technical means to seize online appointments and then resell them to applicants.”

He stressed that access to visa-appointment slots is free of charge. Ramadour also said Schengen visa refusals are always justified, based on a set of criteria defined by Schengen partners. He noted that any refusal decision can be appealed first to the visa appeals commission and then to the French administrative courts.
