Africa-Press. The government of Sierra Leone announced in an official statement that Guinean army forces entered Sierra Leonean territory the day before yesterday and arrested several members of a joint security force, including an officer, before returning them to Guinea.

The statement clarified that the incident occurred in Kallehyi, located in the Falaba district in the northeast of the country, approximately 360 kilometers from the capital, Freetown. It noted that the Guinean soldiers stormed the site while Sierra Leonean army and police personnel were working on constructing a border post and accommodation facility.

Authorities added that a confrontation broke out between the two sides, resulting in the arrest of several members of the Sierra Leonean defense and security forces, as well as the confiscation of their weapons and ammunition.

The Sierra Leonean government confirmed that it is seeking to address the crisis through diplomatic and security channels, emphasizing that it is actively working to confirm the whereabouts of the detainees and ensure their unconditional release. It also stressed that efforts are ongoing to find a peaceful and amicable resolution to the dispute.

For its part, Guinean authorities have yet to issue any official comment regarding the incident, which increases the uncertainty surrounding its background and potential implications for relations between the two neighboring countries.
