Africa-Press. Strategic areas in the Blue Nile state in Sudan are witnessing a conflict in the news about field control between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.
The two sides exchanged declarations of victory and defeat on the other side and suffered heavy losses in the battles in the Blue Nile, where military operations escalated on Saturday in the region between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Alliance and the SPLM led by Abdul Aziz al-Hilu, according to the newspaper “Sudan Tribune”.
The Rapid Support Forces announced that they had been able to achieve military progress, which they described as a “victory”, stressing the extension of full control over the area of al-Kili
The newspaper quoted a spokesman for the Rapid Support Forces as saying that “the forces of the Establishment Alliance have taken full control of the strategic area of “Kili” in the Blue Nile region after fierce battles led by them against the Sudanese army.”
Pro-Rapid Support platforms broadcast videos showing their members at an army base in Blue Nile.
For its part, the Sudanese army said that the 4th Infantry Division and the supporting forces defeated the attack of the Daglo family terrorist militia on the site of Sally and destroyed 36 combat vehicles and received two vehicles in good condition, “pointing to the neutralization of a large number of mercenaries.”
In March, the Rapid Support Forces and its ally, the SPLM-N, launched a large-scale military operation in the far southeastern region of Sudan, which enabled it to control the strategic town of Kurmuk and other surrounding areas.
Sudan has been at war since April 2023, with fighting between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
The United Nations has described the conflict as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Some 12 million people have been displaced by the conflict and half the population is struggling to access food.
