Africa-Press. The Ministry of Security in Burkina Faso has launched Operation “Webga-2” to enhance security across the country, issuing security guidelines for the population. The Burkinabe Minister of Security, Mohamedou Sana, expressed gratitude to the people for their continued commitment to security vigilance and their effective contribution to strengthening internal security.
Minister Sana explained that as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance security, Operation “Webga-2” has been initiated nationwide. He urged the public to fully adhere to the guidelines, exercise extreme caution, and promptly report any suspicious activity or behavior to the relevant authorities.
This includes, but is not limited to, unusual increases in food purchases; acquiring dangerous products or explosive components; sudden housing of individuals in homes who refuse to communicate with neighbors; non-compliance with hotel registration procedures; suspicious activities near strategic infrastructure; and requests for information about sensitive locations.
The minister added that ensuring comprehensive security is based on the principle of community participation in building security, and that every citizen represents a vital link in preventing security threats. He reiterated his call for all citizens to continue cooperating with defense and security forces through civic vigilance and a spirit of nationalism.
Authorities in Burkina Faso are closely monitoring the repercussions of the attacks that have occurred in Mali in recent days, which have raised concerns within the country, particularly in the capital, Ouagadougou, where the security alert level has been raised and precautionary measures intensified.
According to local residents in Ouagadougou, security presence has been significantly enhanced around the presidential palace in the Koulouba area, as well as around Ouagadougou International Airport, where several armored vehicles have been deployed at strategic points near the presidential office since Saturday. The national police have also intensified inspections and document checks at several main routes within the capital.
Amid these measures, calls on social media are increasing to exercise caution and take any indicators or warnings seriously, even if they seem limited.
Activists confirm that the country remains a potential target for armed groups, urging intelligence agencies and citizens to remain in a state of continuous vigilance. One official noted that the situation reflects a rising sense of concern, explaining that many citizens did not expect armed groups to be capable of carrying out attacks of this magnitude in Mali.
He added that the city center, which was already under strict security measures, has turned into what resembles a fully fortified area. Since the issuance of a statement on Sunday signed by Ibrahim Traore in his capacity as head of the Sahel Alliance, no further clarifications have been provided regarding developments in Mali, increasing the sense of anticipation and caution in Burkina Faso.
