A Senegal Player Accuses a Friend of Ruining his Career

Africa-Press. A Senegalese player revealed a strange and shocking incident that affected his personal life and professional career in football.

Bab Sheikh, a player for CD Promesas, a team competing in the lower divisions in Spain, confirmed that he was previously a victim of a dangerous scheme orchestrated by one of his closest friends.

This was stated during an interview with the player, who is 28 years old, on the podcast “El After de Post United,” which discusses stories and experiences from the lives of football players.

A Shocking Account

Bab Sheikh said, “One of my close friends since childhood, with whom I lived, drugged me and made me sign a document that was a general power of attorney in my name. This friend exploited the power of attorney to purchase two commercial properties and a luxury BMW M4 car for large sums from my personal account.”

The player did not discover what had happened to him until several months later when he went to a notary to finalize procedures related to what he described as another matter.

He explained, “I learned about the situation later when I went to the notary after several months regarding another issue. The man recognized me and said, ‘You were here before.’ I replied, ‘No, I have not been here,’ and the employee said again, ‘Wait, I will call my father.’

Bab Sheikh continued, “The employee’s father came and said to me, ‘Do you know that you signed a general power of attorney?’ My son asked you ten times before signing if you were sure, and you kept telling him, ‘Just sign and be quiet, I am tired and want to sleep.’ I was not aware of what was happening, I swear to you.”

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Bab Sheikh did not file a complaint against his friend, whose name he did not disclose, due to his close relationship with the friend’s parents.

He added, “I did not report him out of love and respect for his parents. They always fed me, and I spent many birthdays at their home, so I did not want to put him in jail. Later, we reached an agreement that he would pay a certain amount to the bank every month, but I had already lost a lot of money.”

Impact of the Incident on Bab Sheikh’s Career

At the same time, the player reflected on the impact this incident had on his professional career, admitting that he faced difficulties in continuing to play.

He concluded, “It was crazy and can only be understood after you live it. I could not continue playing football while in that state (he was in Greece at the time). I had to return and fix everything and start over.”

Bab Sheikh has previously played for several clubs in major leagues, including Elche and Celta Vigo in Spain, participating in 40 La Liga matches, as well as Olympique Lyon and Dijon in France, where he played 34 matches in Ligue 1, according to data from the well-known site Transfermarkt.
