Africa-Press. Local reports from Cameroon indicate that armed individuals suspected of belonging to Anglophone separatist groups launched an armed attack on the village of Komingba in the Bangourin municipality in the west of the country, an area located within the Francophone part of Cameroon. This attack resulted in one death and the kidnapping of 13 others.
Heavily armed assailants stormed the village and fired shots into the air, causing panic among residents and forcing many to flee to nearby fields.
Local sources reported that the attackers smashed doors and windows before chasing several men within the village. During the assault, a young man was killed by a bullet, while the assailants took 13 individuals to an unknown location, with no information on their fate available at this time.
A local newspaper reported that most of the village’s residents managed to escape, while a security source noted that the attackers came from the English-speaking northwest region and arrived via Lake Bamendji before advancing nearly ten kilometers into the Francophone Bangourin area.
Several regions in Cameroon have experienced unrest for years due to the conflict between Anglophone separatist groups and the central government. Bangourin has previously faced similar attacks, and despite increased security presence since 2018, no official statements have been issued by local or national authorities regarding this incident.
