Africa-Press. Egypt condemned the incursion of Israeli Minister Itamar Ben Gvir into the Al-Aqsa Mosque and his raising of the Israeli flag in its courtyards, describing it as an unacceptable provocation to the feelings of Muslims worldwide.
Egypt, in a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday evening, expressed its complete rejection of the ongoing repeated Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It warned of the seriousness of such provocative actions that fuel feelings of anger and tension, contributing to increased unrest and instability in the occupied Palestinian territories and the region as a whole, especially in light of the dangerous escalation occurring in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
It emphasized that East Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories since 1967, reiterating the necessity of respecting the existing historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, considering that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a purely Muslim place of worship under the historical Hashemite guardianship of the holy sites in Jerusalem.
It renewed its warning against the consequences of continued Israeli escalation policies, including repeated incursions into holy sites, settlement expansion, violence against Palestinian civilians, and the enactment of laws permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners, which represent a blatant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them Security Council Resolution 2334 and the relevant advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
This comes in the context of Itamar Ben Gvir’s incursion into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday, Thursday, under heavy protection from occupation forces, raising the flag of the occupation inside the courtyards of Al-Aqsa, and performing provocative movements and dances in the mosque, coinciding with the increased incursions of settlers into the mosque during what is referred to as “Jerusalem Unification Day.”
