Africa-Press. The Sudanese army announced the capture of the “Al-Baraka” area in the Blue Nile region, bringing it closer to the city of Kurmuk.
The leadership of the Fourth Infantry Division stated in a report that “the armed forces and supporting troops carried out decisive military operations in the Al-Baraka area, resulting in the defeat of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, completely clearing the area and inflicting significant losses on the coalition in terms of personnel and equipment, as well as destroying military assets and seizing others.”
It added, “This operation is part of a military plan aimed at enhancing security and stability along the eastern border of the Blue Nile region and preventing smuggling and human trafficking activities that are prevalent in border areas.”
Since March, the region located in southeastern Sudan has witnessed an escalation in fighting, as the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Al-Hilu have launched intensive military operations in Kurmuk and its surroundings.
The Blue Nile front holds significant strategic importance due to its border location with Ethiopia and South Sudan.
