Africa-Press. The transitional president of Madagascar, Michael Randrianirina, arrived in the Gabonese capital, Libreville, for an official visit that lasted until the sixth of the same month. This marks one of his first trips to the African continent since taking office.

He was welcomed upon arrival by the Gabonese president, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, where an official reception ceremony took place, including a military display at the Palace of Renewal. A traditional torch made from okoume wood resin was also presented to him in a symbolic tradition reflecting the local cultural heritage.

The two presidents held a closed-door meeting that lasted about an hour, discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange experiences between the two countries, particularly regarding the management of transitional phases following political changes.

Randrianirina stated that his visit aims to benefit from Gabon’s experience in managing the transitional phase that followed the ousting of former president Ali Bongo, noting his country’s interest in exchanging technical expertise and learning from practices that have yielded positive results in Gabon.

The transitional president of Madagascar explained that his country seeks to strengthen institutional cooperation with Gabon, which would support its efforts during the current phase, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and the exchange of experiences among African nations facing similar political and developmental challenges.

For his part, Gabonese president Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema announced his country’s full support for Madagascar, affirming his readiness to defend its interests before the international community and contribute to breaking any diplomatic isolation that may hinder addressing some of the challenges it faces.

The visit’s agenda also included a tour for the Madagascar delegation of several developmental projects being implemented by the Gabonese government, aimed at gaining insights into ongoing developmental initiatives and benefiting from them to support development and reform plans in Madagascar.
