Africa-Press – Eswatini. Former minister of Economic Planning and Development Dr Tambo Gina has advised Eswatini to consider investing and taking more loans in order to boost the economy.

Gina said this during his presentations at Sibaya day five, as he was amongst the panellists who presented. He is currently Lubulini Member of Parliament.

“In all 16 countries under SADC, only three have smaller loans than Eswatini. Even if you can take the world map, you will discover that there is no country that has borrowed money and sank. Let us not be afraid to borrow money and invest so that we can fight hunger, poverty and the lack of job opportunities,” he said.

He added that all these things he had mentioned, required the country to be brave and use the money through investments.

Gina also stated that the key to improve the country’s economy was money, which was what the nation was afraid of.

“The problem that I have discovered in our country is that we are afraid of money, we are afraid of asking for loans. While in my office I dated back to the times of Prince Makhosini and discovered that people were afraid of investing and was rendered to as an imponderable,” he said.

He added that even this generation had also adapted to the same norm of being afraid of making investments and taking loans.

Challenges

Gina also touched on the health challenges faced by the country, adding that this was because people referred hospitals to as part of the ministry of health, which then leads to corruption.

“The main problem is regarding hospitals as part of the ministry.

The ministry buys medication for the hospitals. If you can stop that, there can be less corruption,” he said.

He further addressed the issue of the 2020 political unrest and stated that the nation started off well and they were misled by other people.

“We have a perfect system of governance and we are a demonstration of the Monarchical Democracy as we are sitting here with our King. Then there are other people who have heard things and have been taught by others to do things different from ours.

I would like to advice the next Prime Minister to address the issues first and further take everyone who will cause riots into task,” he said.
