Africa-Press – Namibia. Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader McHenry Venaani has challenged President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to dismantle what he describes as an organised insider trading network within government.
He said this is necessary to effectively combat corruption.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Venaani accused senior government officials of engaging in insider trading.
He claimed directors and executive directors are using their positions to benefit from state tenders and contracts.
“Most importantly… one structure we must agree upon as a legislature and a country together is that we need to dismantle a very organised insider trading network. I want to agree with our former member of parliament Katjimune, who once tweeted that the biggest corruption does not lie with ministers. It lies with parastatal bosses, CEOs, and many bureaucrats,” said Venaani.
He alleged that nearly every ministry is affected and that insider trading is happening in areas such as drought relief food sourcing and other state tenders.
“Nearly on everything, even on drought relief food, there is insider trading where this food is sourced from. Nearly every tender in this country has insider trading… And if we are failing to dismantle the insider trading in the government system, then we will not fight corruption,” he said.
Venaani called on the President to appoint a task force to investigate the issue and hold those involved accountable.
He also challenged Nandi-Ndaitwah to release the long-awaited August 26 report, which he claims was withheld by her predecessors.
“Mama Netumbo Ndaitwah, if you want to show me , and you know I know governance, you know I know what is happening in your government. You want to show this country that you are no pushover and you are a lady of bite on corruption; please do the honourable thing.
President Hage Geingob did not release that report; President Mbumba did not release that report. Show me your mantle of leadership, show this country what you are made of and release the report of August 26. Why are you seated on that report?” questioned Venaani.
