Africa-Press – Namibia. “A HEALTHY nation is a productive nation. For our young people to seize the opportunities before them, we must work together to ensure their holistic development,” President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Head of State participated in a side event ahead of the High-Level Week, underscoring Namibia’s commitment to youth empowerment. She highlighted the Physically Active Youth (PAY) programme from Katutura as a model initiative that has transformed lives through after-school support and cycling development, demonstrating that investing in youth is an investment in the nation’s future.

Her message was echoed during an Intergenerational Fireside Chat, where she was joined by Ambassador Dr. Kaire Mbuende, Hon. Fenny Tutjavi, Romario Smith, and Marie Jeanne Ndimbira Rosner, with Vivienne Sequeira of The Africa Society moderating.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed that youth empowerment remains central to Namibia’s Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) and Vision 2030. She outlined key initiatives, including the N$257 million National Youth Fund for skills training and apprenticeships, the professionalisation of sports, culture and creative industries, and investment in infrastructure and digital transformation.

The President concluded by stressing that community-driven initiatives like PAY exemplify how partnerships can expand opportunities for Namibia’s youth, ensuring they play a leading role in shaping the country’s development.
