Audit Service Sierra Leone Gets $40,000 Saudi Grant

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has received a $40,000 grant from the General Court of Audit (GCA) of Saudi Arabia. The funding is aimed at helping the agency improve its cybersecurity systems and strengthen its ICT operations.

The support comes at a time when digital tools and systems are playing an increasingly important role in public audit work. As more government processes become digitized, audit institutions are expected to keep pace by securing their systems and protecting sensitive financial data.

The grant was made available through the International Organization for Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), as part of a wider program to support audit institutions in developing countries and fragile states. It is also linked to ongoing global efforts through projects like the GSAI and PAP-APP, which focus on building technical and institutional capacity.

With this support, the ASSL will carry out comprehensive cybersecurity training for its technical staff. The goal is to equip ICT personnel with the skills to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats that could affect sensitive public audit data.

The training will help improve how the agency protects its systems against hacking attempts, data leaks, and digital disruptions. These areas are becoming more important as public sector institutions rely on digital infrastructure to carry out everyday operations and communicate with government departments.

ASSL says the funding will also help improve the overall ICT infrastructure and ensure that its systems are better prepared to handle security risks. The agency is focusing on long-term development of internal skills and systems that support its public accountability work.

In addition to training, the grant will contribute to improving the tools and technology the agency uses to carry out audits, store information, and manage digital records. The improvements are expected to make the audit process more secure and efficient.

This move forms part of broader plans by the ASSL to upgrade its digital tools and improve the quality and reliability of its audit processes. The agency has been working toward modernizing its systems in recent years and views this grant as a boost to that effort.

The Audit Service continues to engage with international partners and aims to use this grant to boost both its security readiness and the delivery of its core functions in the public sector. The agency is committed to improving how it serves the public and contributes to transparency and accountability in Sierra Leone.
