Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Executive Chairman of Bo Rangers Football Club, Babadi Kamara, has emerged victorious in the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Presidential Election held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Gateway Hotel in Lungi Town, Port Loko District.
Kamara’s victory serves as a crucial shift in leadership for the Sierra Leone FA, which notably plays a significant role in the development of football in the country.
The Bo Rangers Executive Chairman faced competition from two other candidates -Alhaji Umaru Bah and Aminata Bangura.
Kamara secured 43 votes in a landslide victory, his opponents, Aminata Bangura secured 11 votes, while Alhaji Umaru Bah secured 1 vote, only.
The incumbent, Thomas Daddy Brima was disqualified from the race on allegations of forgery. Brima denied any wrongdoing and challenged the decision of the SLFA Ethics Committee, but a court ruling declared the case null and avoid giving the green for the Congress to proceed as planned.
The presidential candidate, Aminata Bangura was also disqualified from the race but a ruling by the FIFA Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on July 31, overturned her disqualification giving her the green light to contest.f
While Kamara is declared winner, some other football stakeholders have described the electoral process to be marred by allegations of political manipulation, delegate list issues, and intimidation tactics, raising concerns among various factions within the association. Despite these challenges, the election proceeded as planned in Lungi.
The election took place amid a backdrop of controversy and challenges. Following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on July 31, female candidate Ms. Aminata Bangura was granted temporary clearance to participate in the election.
The incumbent president, Thomas Daddy Brima, was however unable to secure a court order to postpone the meeting after failing integrity checks, leading to his withdrawal from the race.
During the election, a heated dispute reportedly broke out at the, as delegates protested against Vice President 2, Alie Badara Tarawalie, presiding over the session in the absence of the SLFA President, Thomas Daddy Brima.
As the delegates cast their votes, the atmosphere was tense, with many groups claiming that the electoral process was fraught with irregularities.
