Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Revenue Authority (NRA) of Sierra Leone, through its customs Department, has convened a high-level meeting with representatives from all thirteen commercial banks involved in government revenue collection and executives from the Association of Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (ACFA).
The engagement aimed to improve collaboration, transparency, and efficiency in the collection and management of public funds.
The meeting focused on strengthening mechanisms for revenue remittance, monitoring, and reconciliation. Customs Commissioner Mr. Tennyson Bio underscored the vital role of financial institutions in the effective management of public finances. He emphasized the need for timely transfers of government revenue and accurate reporting as essential components of trade facilitation and public trust.
“We are counting on our banking partners to ensure that every transaction is properly monitored and accounted for,” he stated, highlighting the importance of accountability in revenue handling.
Deputy Director of Finance, Mr. Christian Alex Kamara, conveyed the NRA’s ongoing commitment to implementing a more robust and integrated reconciliation and reporting system. He called on banks to provide timely remittances, grant access to core banking systems, and submit daily collection reports in both digital and physical formats to support the Authority’s reconciliation processes.
The NRA also presented a set of proposed reforms aimed at modernizing the revenue management framework. These include enhanced access to banking applications for real-time transaction monitoring, more frequent submission of collection data, and improved coordination between clearing agents and their clients.
Stakeholders at the meeting welcomed the proposed changes. Both ACFA representatives and banking officials expressed their willingness to collaborate with the NRA in implementing the reforms. They acknowledged the importance of shared accountability in ensuring effective revenue collection and supporting national development efforts.
The meeting concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of commitment to improved coordination, transparency, and operational efficiency across the revenue collection system.
