Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio has met with the outgoing Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Sierra Leone, Sayed Khalil Sadati Amiri, to mark his formal departure after three years of diplomatic service.

During the meeting, Ambassador Amiri commended President Bio’s Human Capital Development initiative, describing it as a transformative national policy with the potential to reshape Sierra Leone’s future.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Timothy Musa Kabba introduced the Ambassador, emphasizing the occasion as one of pride and gratitude. He highlighted the Ambassador’s sustained efforts to strengthen bilateral ties throughout his tenure.

Reflecting on his experience in Sierra Leone, Ambassador Amiri recalled the discussions he had with President Bio after presenting his credentials, during which they identified key areas for deepening cooperation. He underscored his role in supporting the government’s Human Capital Development program, which included providing scholarships for four sets of Sierra Leonean students to study in Iran and establishing a nursing school, thereby enhancing bilateral engagement in education.

“Your Excellency, your human capital development initiative is commendable. It can truly transform this country,” Ambassador Amiri stated, assuring that the scholarship program would continue to benefit Sierra Leonean students. He expressed optimism for increased collaboration between the two nations in education, technology, medicine, and other priority sectors.

In his remarks, President Bio thanked the Ambassador for his dedicated service, characterizing him as a true partner who used diplomacy to achieve tangible results. He acknowledged the contributions made in human capital development and healthcare, pointing out their measurable benefits for Sierra Leone.

“There are challenging times globally. Your ability to sustain and strengthen the relationship between our two countries while promoting key development in Sierra Leone is vital, and we appreciate it greatly,” President Bio said. He expressed hope that the Ambassador’s successor would build on the strong foundations established during Amiri’s tenure.

“On behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone, I want to thank you for everything you have done as the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Sierra Leone. I wish you success in your next mission, and please know you are always welcome here,” the President concluded.
