Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. In a press release dated August 3, 2025, the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) has denied claims made in a viral video depicting passengers struggling after a boat capsized while traveling from Lungi to Freetown.
The SLMA stated that the video does not correlate with any recent accidents officially reported or investigated by the organization since the startingof the rainy season.
Meanwhile, the SLMA clarified that the MV Murzuk ferry did experience a minor technical issue with its hydraulic steering pump while en route to the Kissy Terminal on August 2, 2025. However, the crew managed the situation effectively, adhering to established safety protocols to ensure the ferry’s safe berthing.
The administration reassured the public that the MV Murzuk is fully operational and urged individuals to refrain from sharing unverified or outdated information that could incite unnecessary alarm or public concern.
