Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set December 30, this year as new date for the parliamentary election for Siha Constituency in Kilimanjaro Region.
The decision follows the suspension of the earlier electoral process after the death of Daudi Wilibrod Ntuyehabi, a parliamentary candidate for the Civic United Front (CUF), who passed away on October 8, this year.
In a statement, INEC Director of Election, Ramadhani Kailima, said the suspension was in line with Section 71(1) of the Election Act for the President, Members of Parliament and Councillors No. 1 of 2024.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) received official communication from the Returning Officer of Siha Constituency regarding the death of Mr Daudi Wilibrod Ntuyehabi. As a result, the election in that constituency was officially suspended,” the statement said.
INEC has now invoked Sections 68(1), (3), (4) and 71(2) of the same Act to reschedule the election and issue a new timetable.
Under the new schedule, nomination forms for CUF’s parliamentary candidate will be issued from 15 to 21 October 2025, with the nomination exercise set for 21 October 2025.
Campaigning will run from 22 to 27 October 2025 and later resume from 5 November to 29 December 2025, following a short suspension from 29 October to 4 November to accommodate the General Election and announcement of results.
INEC stressed that the new nomination will not include any other candidate lawfully nominated in the previous process, unless the candidate has formally withdrawn.
The commission also reminded political parties, candidates and all stakeholders to adhere to the Constitution, laws, regulations, election code of ethics, procedures, guidelines and directives issued by INEC to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
