Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENTIAL candidate for the National League for Democracy (NLD), Doyo Hassan Doyo, has pledged to construct a modern multi-storey market in Babati town, Manyara Region, within six months of taking office. He also promised to increase the local government’s 10 percent loan allocation to 40 percent.

Doyo made the promises during his campaign rally in Babati as he seeks the people’s mandate to become Tanzania’s next President in the upcoming General Election scheduled for October 29 this year.

He stated that if elected, he would eliminate the challenges women, youth, and persons with disabilities face when accessing demeaning and restrictive loans. He also promised to hire 15,000 health professionals and increase the supply of medical equipment to improve healthcare services.

“The state of healthcare delivery in the country is not satisfactory. I am asking Tanzanians to give me the mandate so I can improve the healthcare system. I will ensure treatment is provided free of charge without any contribution from patients,” said Doyo.

He criticized the current health insurance system, saying:

“It’s unacceptable for someone to pay between 50,000/- and 1m/- for insurance, only to be told at the hospital that the insurance doesn’t cover treatment. That is discrimination.”

Additionally, Doyo vowed to reduce the size of the presidential motorcade if elected, saying:

“As President, I will not travel with large convoys. My convoy will consist of only four vehicles.”
