Africa-Press – Tanzania. CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential running mate, Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi, has praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for demonstrating exceptional leadership in advancing the legacy of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere.

Speaking at a campaign rally at Kindiko grounds in Mkalama District, Singida Region, Dr Nchimbi said President Samia had carried forward Nyerere’s enduring ideals through concrete efforts to combat the three main enemies of development, ignorance, disease and poverty, which he said remain central to Tanzania’s socio-economic progress.

Citing Nyerere’s first independence speech delivered on December 9, 1961, Dr Nchimbi recalled the late leader’s call to confront these challenges head-on.

“The main enemies of our nation are ignorance, disease and poverty,” he said, adding that President Samia has shown unwavering commitment to this struggle by strengthening education, healthcare and the national economy.

“It is because of these efforts that we can today witness tangible social and economic progress under her leadership.”

Dr Nchimbi described the commemoration of Nyerere’s passing as a vital reminder for Tanzanians to preserve the nation’s founding principles of unity, love and peace. He noted that Nyerere not only led Tanganyika to independence without bloodshed but also united Tanganyika and Zanzibar into the United Republic of Tanzania, laying the foundation for peace and national cohesion that the country continues to enjoy.

Highlighting Nyerere’s philosophy of Socialism and Self-Reliance (Ujamaa na Kujitegemea), Dr Nchimbi said the principles inspired Tanzanians to live cooperatively, respect each other and prioritise national interest over personal gain. “We will make a grave mistake if we abandon unity, solidarity and peace while claiming to honour the Father of the Nation,” he stressed.

He commended Iramba residents for embodying these ideals through self-reliance in agriculture, noting that over 80 per cent of the population engage in farming for subsistence and trade.

“This demonstrates that ordinary citizens can contribute directly to national development when provided with the right support and opportunities,” he added.

Dr Nchimbi outlined major achievements under President Samia’s leadership, noting that CCM remains steadfast in Nyerere’s vision of prioritising people over material gain.

In healthcare, he said the government plans to upgrade the district hospital with more services, modern medical equipment and specialist doctors. Over the next five years, five new health centres, eight dispensaries and twelve staff houses will also be constructed, further improving access to quality healthcare in the region.

On education, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to free education from pre-primary to Form Six, accompanied by expanded infrastructure, including new schools, dormitories, laboratories and ICT facilities.

“Education remains the foundation of national development,” he said, “and President Samia has ensured that every child has the chance to learn and grow in a safe, well-resourced environment.”

Dr Nchimbi highlighted the government’s continued focus on agriculture as the backbone of the economy.

“In Iramba East alone, irrigation projects worth over 34bn/- are underway,” he said, noting that these projects will increase food production, improve livelihoods and strengthen export capacity.

He added that the government is actively pursuing economic diplomacy to expand export markets, particularly for pigeon peas and lentils to India.

“Our aim is to ensure farmers benefit directly. We will establish affordable machinery hiring centres, modern storage facilities and strengthen extension services. Subsidies for fertilisers, seeds and pesticides will also be increased,” he said.

The government also plans to implement major water and road projects in Iramba East, including a water supply scheme from Lake Victoria, deep well drilling and the construction of tarmac roads and bridges to improve connectivity and access to markets.

Iramba West parliamentary candidate, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba noted that the sixth-phase government has set new benchmarks in the scale and scope of development projects and funding.

“Never before has Tanzania seen such a comprehensive investment in education, health and infrastructure,” he said.

Similarly, Iramba East parliamentary candidate, Jesca Kishoa expressed gratitude for Dr Nchimbi’s visit on Nyerere Day.

“In Samia and Nchimbi, we see the spirit of Julius Nyerere leadership rooted in service, unity and national development,” she said.

Singida CCM Regional Chairperson Martha Mlata reassured residents that the party remains committed to continuing the work initiated by the Father of the Nation.

“Under President Samia, we are guided by peace, unity and people-centred development. CCM will continue to translate Nyerere’s vision into real, measurable progress,” she said.
