Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE former Tanzanian President, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, has commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s guidance in the preparation of the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 in an inclusive and participatory manner that reflects the aspirations of Tanzanians.

Speaking today, July 17, 2025, in Dodoma during the official launch of the Vision, Dr. Kikwete stated that the government has demonstrated a genuine commitment by involving various segments of society, including retired leaders, as key stakeholders in providing input and contributions to the drafting of this important national document.

“Your Excellency, I wish to extend our heartfelt congratulations to you for how the preparation of Vision 2050 was conducted. It was carried out with the highest level of professionalism, and it was truly inclusive and participatory. Even we, as retired leaders, were allowed to share our views, just like other citizens,” said Dr. Kikwete.

He further noted that he had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the National Planning Commission twice, with one of those meetings led by the late Laurence Mafuru, the then Executive Secretary of the Commission.

Expressing both joy and optimism, Dr. Kikwete emphasized that the primary goal of the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 is to elevate the country from a lower-middle-income economy to an upper-middle-income economy by the year 2050 — a target he described as fundamental for sustainable national development.
