Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian Vice President, Dr. Philip Mpango, has stated that Tanzania remains in the category of developing countries, and now is the right time to lift the nation to an upper-middle-income economy.

Speaking today, Thursday, July 17, 2025, during the official launch of the National Development Vision 2050 held at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma, Dr. Mpango emphasized that development success should not be measured by statistics alone, but by the real improvement in the lives of citizens.

“Let us not pursue development that is only reflected in numbers, but one that brings real, better lives to our people,” said Dr. Mpango.

He noted that development does not occur by chance or by relying solely on market forces. Rather, it requires innovative thinking, solid planning, and the combined efforts of multiple generations of the nation.

“Countries that have achieved significant development invested in creating long-term visions, establishing institutions to interpret those visions, and tracking their implementation,” he added.

The Vice President underscored the importance of a national vision, explaining that it defines the country’s direction, unifies the people’s efforts, and fosters a collective sense of hope for progress. He also highlighted the critical need to invest in youth education, stating that young people are the most powerful and essential resource for the nation’s development.

Dr. Mpango concluded by urging all Tanzanians to work together earnestly in implementing Vision 2050 to achieve a prosperous, equitable, and inclusive society for all.
