Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has emphasized that no individual or group will succeed in dividing Tanzanians based on religion, ethnicity, or regional affiliation, as the nation stands on a strong foundation of unity and national cohesion.

This statement was made today, June 6, 2025, by Khamis Mbeto Khamis, the Secretary of the Special Committee of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in Zanzibar for Ideology, Publicity, and Training. He stated that the peace and unity enjoyed in Tanzania are not the responsibility of one person, a particular religion, or tribe, but rather the result of collective efforts by all citizens.

“Our nation’s founders sacrificed their sweat, strength, and even lives to ensure that Tanzania would be a country united across religious, ethnic, and cultural lines. No Tanzanian is willing to see this country divided by a handful of self-serving individuals,” Mbeto said.

He explained that the country was built through the contributions of people from all religions, tribes, and regions from villages to cities underscoring that the responsibility to protect and preserve this unity lies with all Tanzanians.

Mbeto added that CCM is confident that no person or group can undermine the nation’s unity using religion or ethnicity as a weapon. He stressed that Tanzania will remain a strong and united nation, undisturbed by divisive agendas.

Moreover, Mbeto acknowledged the presence of certain individuals attempting to incite division using religious and ethnic rhetoric. However, he asserted that these efforts would fail, and the perpetrators would face shame. He noted that Tanzanians have learned from the experiences of other countries, such as the Central African Republic, where such divisions have led to severe conflict and suffering.

He also issued a warning to politicians who might resort to religion or ethnicity as a political strategy ahead of the upcoming general elections. Mbeto urged Tanzanians to remain vigilant and actively reject such tactics. He emphasized that political discourse should be based on ideas and policies, not on inciting religious or ethnic sentiments.
