Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA has called upon the international community to adopt robust strategies that ensure the meaningful inclusion of women in peace and security efforts, particularly in addressing conflicts fuelled by tribalism, racism, extremism and disputes over borders and natural resources.
The call was made on Monday by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Conference on Women, Peace and Security, held in Prishtina, Kosovo.
Amb Kombo delivered the keynote address during a panel discussion titled “Peace Cohesion in the 21st Century: What is Needed.”
“For a peaceful and stable world, the international community must work collaboratively with countries to provide adequate education on the importance of global peace,” Ambassador Kombo said.
He insisted the importance of involving women and youths in peacebuilding processes to address the root causes of conflict, including tribalism, religious extremism, competition over natural resources and racism.
“In today’s era of science and technology, women play a vital role in matters of peace and security, from the family level to global platforms, as they are often both the primary victims of conflict and the guardians of families in times of crisis,” he noted.
Reflecting on Tanzania’s experience, Ambassador Kombo said that under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the country has prioritised peace and security. He cited Tanzania’s active engagement in regional and global conflict resolution efforts through peaceful means as a key example.
“One of Tanzania’s strengths as a peaceful nation lies in its steadfast commitment to preventing conflict through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.
Ambassador Kombo also underscored the importance of empowering youths, particularly by providing employment opportunities to help prevent unrest stemming from joblessness.
He expressed optimism that the conference would produce concrete strategies to ensure the full empowerment and inclusion of women and youths in all aspects of peace and security.
In addition to his address on peace and security, Ambassador Kombo also promoted Tanzania’s tourism sector, inviting delegates to explore the country’s world-renowned attractions such as Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park and other world-class sites in Zanzibar.
Earlier, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, who officially opened the conference and is also the forum’s founder, thanked all delegates for their strong participation. She expressed her satisfaction in seeing the continued global recognition of women’s contributions to peace and security.
Dr Sadriu, whose country has experienced its own history of conflict, affirmed Kosovo’s ongoing commitment to supporting global initiatives that empower women to fully participate in peacebuilding efforts.
