Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, eon Sunday expressed Angola’s interest in deepening bilateral relations in the cultural field with the People’s Republic of China.
Speaking to the press, on the eve of the 8th Taihu International Culture Conference, taking place from 17 to 18 November, the government official recalled that there is a memorandum of understanding, signed in 2024, between the ministries of Culture and Tourism of Angola and China.
As he explained, the protocol is broad and covers several areas linked to the arts, cultural heritage, museums and the preservation of historical heritage.
Filipe Zau revealed that he had visited several Chinese museums, highlighting the importance of the experiences observed in both the artistic and heritage domains.
He highlighted that these contacts are essential to strengthen the training of Angolan staff in the cultural and museological areas.
The Minister informed that, during the conference, a review of the calendar of joint activities will be carried out, as well as a projection of future actions, taking into account that the bilateral agreement that extends until 2028 needs a more active implementation.
He also announced his intention to raise scholarships for Angolan students in the areas of arts, archives, museums and archeology.
“We are currently carrying out surveys within the scope of paleontology. We have found fossils that resemble dinosaurs, in Namibe, and we want to train specialists for research, collection and conservation of these materials. Our museums need trained technicians, including for restoration work”, he highlighted.
Filipe Zau recalled that many Angolan museums have pieces that require restoration, with high cultural and educational value.
He also highlighted that Angola faces a lack of specialized training in museology, archeology and librarianship, areas that are fundamental to the development of the sector and which should attract the interest of young people.
For Monday (17), the minister has a broad agenda planned, including bilateral meetings and courtesy visits.
The Taihu International Culture Conference takes place under the motto of preserving Chinese traditions, articulating tradition and modernity, and promoting intercultural dialogue, understanding between people and strengthening international cooperation.
