Africa-Press – Angola. Chess players Jaime Sonhy and Jemima Paulo won the 2nd edition of the “INEA Grand Prix 2025” on Saturday, a competition integrated into the official calendar of the Angolan Chess Federation (FAX) and counting for the national circuit.
After three days of intense competition, in a total of seven rounds, Jaime Sonhy confirmed his favoritism and won the men’s title by scoring 5.5 points, the result of five wins, one draw and only one loss.
In the final round, the champion shared the point with Edivânio Domingos, securing the sole lead in the competition.
Second place went to Anderson João, with five points, followed by Alexandre Próspero and Edivânio Domingos, both with five points also.
The top 5 was completed by Lulceni Mendes, who totaled 4.5 points.
In the women’s sector, FIDE Master (FM) Jemima Paulo won the competition by achieving six points, the result of six wins and one loss, becoming the champion convincingly.
International Master (IM) Esperança Caxita took second place with five points, while Edivânia Martins and Ana Domingo also scored five points, ranking third and fourth respectively.
MF Luzia Pires finished in the top five, with 4.5 points.
The competition, held in one of the event rooms of a condominium in Luanda, took place in the Swiss system, with quick 15-minute matches and three-second increments per move.
In total, 33 athletes, 18 male and 15 female, fought for the trophy of the event that celebrated the 35th anniversary of the National Roads Institute of Angola (INEA), marked on Friday (14).
The first international edition was held three years ago, at the institution’s headquarters.
