Africa-Press – Angola. The Embassy of Angola to Cuba paid, on Friday, a solemn tribute to the Cuban internationalist fighters who fell in Angola during Operation Carlota, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.
The ceremony took place in the Pantheon of the Colón Cemetery, in Havana, where veterans of the liberation wars and internationalist fighters who marked the joint history between Angola and Cuba rest.
Representing the diplomatic mission, counselor Iara Proença highlighted the historical importance of November 11th and praised the solidarity of the Cuban people in defending Angolan sovereignty.
She considered it inevitable to recognize the leading role of the combatants who fought side by side with the Angolans, offering their lives for a common cause.
In her speech, he stated that the tribute extends “to all these heroes, known and anonymous, who became legends with their absolute dedication on the battlefields”, highlighting that the example left by these combatants continues to inspire generations and reaffirms values of courage, solidarity and fraternity between peoples.
The ceremony was attended by Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), René González Barrios, director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba and representatives of various civil society organizations.
The diplomat also expressed deep gratitude to the Cuban people and Government, with special reference to the historic leader Fidel Castro, for the solidarity shown to Angola during the liberation struggle, the preservation of independence and the process of national reconstruction.
